City open-data app for a civic problem
Pick a real problem in your city and build an open-data app that helps solve it.
The brief
Every city has problems residents talk about: waterlogging, unsafe roads, missing bus stops, overcrowded hospitals. Pick one in your own city, gather open data (maps, government statistics, your own survey), analyse it, and build an app or dashboard that helps the people who could fix it. Good looks like: a well-defined problem with evidence, sound analysis, a usable app, and feedback from at least a few real users or officials.
What you will build
- Choose the problem and the people who could act on it
- Collect open map and government data, plus a small survey of your own
- Clean, join and map the data
- Analyse the problem and find where it is worst
- Build the app or dashboard and test it with users
- Write the report with recommendations

- Open Government Data Platform India ↗ Government of India
- National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP) ↗ NITI Aayog
Check each dataset's licence before you publish your work. Your mentor gives your team its own version of the brief (data, scope or region), so every team's project is its own.
