Mandi price forecasting for farmers
Forecast wholesale prices of key crops in Indian mandis to help farmers decide when and where to sell.
The brief
Farmers often sell at the worst time because they cannot see where prices are heading. Using daily mandi prices and arrivals, forecast prices for a few crops across nearby markets, and build an advisory that says whether to sell now or wait, and where. Good looks like: forecasts that beat simple baselines, a sell-or-wait advice tested on past seasons, and an advisory a farmer could follow.
What you will build
- Collect daily prices and arrivals for chosen crops and markets
- Clean and align the series
- Build baselines and forecasting models
- Design and backtest sell-or-wait advice
- Add weather and festival effects
- Build the advisory and write the report
