Dissolution profile comparison with the f2 similarity factor

Compare the dissolution of a generic tablet with the brand and decide if they are similar.

The brief

A generic tablet must release its drug like the brand does. Build a tool that takes dissolution readings (percent dissolved at each time) for a reference and a test product, calculates the f2 similarity factor and the difference at each time, and says whether the profiles are similar under the usual rules. Good looks like: results that match a worked example from a guideline, a plot of both profiles with error bars, and a clear note when the f2 rules do not apply.

What you will build

  1. Read the guideline rules for f2 and when it applies
  2. Enter or load dissolution readings for 12 units
  3. Calculate mean, spread and f2
  4. Plot both profiles with error bars
  5. Add a check for the rules (time points, variability, 85 percent rule)
  6. Write a short comparison report
