Multi-task sensor node on an RTOS

Write firmware with FreeRTOS or Zephyr that reads sensors, filters them and sends readings without missing deadlines.

The brief

A sensor node must read, filter, log and transmit at the same time, and one slow task must not stall the others. Build firmware on a real-time operating system for an ESP32 or STM32 board with separate tasks for sampling, filtering and communication, and prove that it meets its timing. Good looks like: tasks with sensible priorities, a queue between them, measured worst-case latency, and no missed samples over an hour.

What you will build

  1. Choose the board, sensor and RTOS
  2. Split the work into sampling, filtering and sending tasks
  3. Connect the tasks with queues and a mutex
  4. Measure task timing and CPU load
  5. Test with a deliberately slow task and fix priorities
  6. Document the timing budget
