Start-up unit economics and runway model

Build a model of customer acquisition cost, lifetime value and cash runway for a start-up idea.

The brief

Many start-ups run out of cash because each customer costs more to win than they ever pay back. Build a model for a start-up of your choice that shows acquisition cost, margin, churn, lifetime value and runway under three scenarios, and tells the founders what must be true to survive. Good looks like: every assumption visible, a scenario switch, and a clear statement of the break-even customer count.

What you will build

  1. Choose a start-up idea and write its assumptions
  2. Model customers, revenue and costs monthly
  3. Compute CAC, LTV and payback period
  4. Add best, base and worst scenarios
  5. Find break-even and runway
  6. Pitch the findings to an investor
