Blast design and rock fragmentation predictor

Predict rock fragment size from blast design and suggest changes that cut cost and boulders.

The brief

Blasting that makes too many boulders slows the crusher, and blasting that is too heavy wastes explosive. Using blast design parameters, predict mean fragment size with the Kuz-Ram model, compare with a machine learning model on blasts, and recommend designs that reduce cost. Good looks like: a Kuz-Ram calculator that matches the textbook, a model tested on separate blasts, and a design suggestion with cost.

What you will build

  1. Study the Kuz-Ram fragmentation model
  2. Build the calculator
  3. Generate or collect blast records
  4. Train a machine learning model
  5. Compare accuracy and explain differences
  6. Recommend a lower-cost design
