Building energy use and HVAC savings

Model how a building uses energy and show what a smarter cooling schedule would save.

The brief

Air conditioning is the largest part of a building's electricity bill, and it often runs on a fixed timetable. Using indoor and outdoor sensor readings alongside appliance use, model the building's energy, find what drives it, and test the saving from a smarter schedule. Good looks like: a model that predicts energy from temperature and occupancy, a clear what-if on set-points, and a saving estimate with its uncertainty.

What you will build

  1. Load and clean the energy and temperature readings
  2. Find what drives consumption
  3. Build a model of building energy
  4. Test a different cooling schedule in the model
  5. Estimate the saving with uncertainty
  6. Present to a facilities manager
