Wireless condition monitor for a motor or pump

Measure vibration and temperature on a motor, send them over Wi-Fi or LoRa and raise an alert when they drift.

The brief

Many small plants only find out a motor is failing when it stops. Build a low-cost monitor with an accelerometer and temperature sensor, send the readings to a dashboard, and raise an alert when vibration or temperature moves away from the machine's normal. Good looks like: a baseline taken from a healthy machine, alert limits that avoid false alarms, and a battery-life estimate.

What you will build

  1. Mount an accelerometer and temperature sensor
  2. Sample and send readings to a dashboard
  3. Record a healthy baseline
  4. Set alert limits from the baseline
  5. Test by adding a small imbalance or load
  6. Estimate battery life
