Camera inspection cell with a reject signal

Build an inspection station that photographs parts, finds defects with a model and sends a pass or reject signal to a controller.

The brief

A human inspector tires after an hour; a camera does not. Build a small inspection cell where a camera photographs each part, a model finds defects without needing many defect examples, and a pass or reject signal goes to a PLC or microcontroller that moves a gate. Good looks like: the model tested on parts it has never seen, a measured time per part, and a clear rule for borderline cases that go to a human.

What you will build

  1. Choose parts and set up lighting and camera
  2. Train an anomaly model on good parts
  3. Test on defective parts and set the threshold
  4. Send pass and reject signals to a controller
  5. Measure time per part and error rates
  6. Route borderline parts to a person
